Birthday Celebrations....date day and family style!

To celebrate my birthday this year, Kyle took me to our favorite BBQ joint in Michigan....Slow's Barbeque in Detroit! Kyle first introduced me to this amazing delicacy a couple years ago on HIS birthday and I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to follow suit for MY birthday this year. Next to going down South to Texas, it's probably the best BBQ you can get in these parts, and my is it good!!! So good, that is is quite well known around the state and literally, no matter what time you go, it is packed with at least an hour wait. It is SO worth it though. And since Kyle and I rarely have time alone these days, sitting at the bar with drinks in our hands and an appetizer in front of us, while we wait to be seated, only gives us more time together, time together that we truly treasure!

Birthday selfie at the bar!

Finally at our table after drinks and the best chili cheese fries imaginable. Which sauce will we choose?

Diggin' in!

The best birthday present of all....spending uninterrupted time with this guy!

Since my birthday was on a Monday, Kyle and I went to Slow's on the weekend and then on my actual birthday we celebrated at home as a family :-) And let me just say, my boys sure took care of me that night, with homemade brownies, my favorite shrimp Po Boy's Sandwich for dinner, and lots of LOVE!

I loved sitting back with a glass of wine while the boys took over the kitchen!

My view from the dining room.....truly priceless.

After dinner, I finally got to indulge in the best birthday brownies around! Brett thought it was quite funny that Kyle only put 5 candles on since I am certainly much older than that...ha!

Christmas Part Two

A few short days after Christmas, Matt and Amy came to Chelsea to celebrate with us. They arrived late one evening but still insisted on coming over to see the boys, and let me just say, Uncle Matt is one popular guy at our house! Camden saw how excited Brett was to see his aunt and uncle, so he followed them around all evening, smiling, showing off his toys, and hamming it up. So cute to watch! Then, a couple days after they arrived, we celebrated Christmas again and Matt's birthday at my parent's house. I didn't take many pictures, but we sure had a great time together :-)

The first night they visited, my brother sat down to read a Star Wars book to Brett...but someone else insisted on getting in on the action too! Both boys sure do love their uncle Matt and I am so grateful he is in their lives!

Brett asked Uncle Matt if he would hide his gifts (with clues) like he did last year, and here they are together after he found his final present, a remote control BB8 from Star Wars! Needless to say, Brett was all smiles the whole night long. Thank you, Uncle Matt!

And to continue the Star Wars theme, after dinner we all watched Return of the Jedi! Brett was mesmerized.....

....While Camden enjoyed climbing up on the furniture in his new Star Wars PJ's from one of my best friends. Thank you, Elena!

First Christmas and Birthday together as a married couple!

After the movie, we went outside for our annual "Matt and Brett's birthday" sparklers!

It's funny how as you get older, the real gift of Christmas becomes spending time with family and loved ones and making memories that you hope to never forget. Love our traditions and love my family!

Christmas Part One

After celebrating Brett's birthday on the 24th, it was time to get ready for Christmas! Kyle and I wait until the boys are asleep, grab a glass of wine, and then go to town wrapping presents. Surprisingly, we really enjoy this time together and get so excited as we anticipate the next morning and the happy faces we will see!

Our banister is the perfect spot to hang the boys stockings...and Santa was sure to enjoy the cookies Brett and Yana made for him!

Brett and Camden woke up bright and early on Christmas morning and together we rushed down the stairs to see what Santa brought. After opening stockings, we made gift piles for each of us, and here is Brett with his! As you can tell by the amount of presents, he is loved by many!

Let the opening begin!

This X-Wing model airplane was one of his favorites!

Camden couldn't have cared less about his gifts......he just wanted everything his brother got! Ha!

Brett was so excited to finally get the R2D2 sticker for his bedroom! I have to admit, it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be....

Grandma and Grandpa Bingham surprised Brett with another Star Wars lego set! His project for the day :-)

After Brett was done opening presents, Camden finally paid attention to his gifts! One of his favorites was the new ride on toy that makes sounds and he can drive around himself!

For the first time this year, we signed Brett up to go Christmas shopping on his own! There is a group in Chelsea called the "Material Girls" who craft all year long and then sell there masterpieces during the holidays to collect money for Faith in Action. They hold a bazar where everything is $5 or under. You sign your child up for a spot, make a list of the people they are shopping for, and a volunteer middle or high school student walks through with them and helps them pick out and wrap the perfect gifts for their loved ones. Brett was so excited and really took his time picking out just the right gifts for me, Kyle, my mom and dad. I love how this process encourages the spirit of giving and this is definitely the beginning of new tradition in our house! Below is a picture of me with the beautiful earrings Brett picked out for me :-) He knows I love jewelry and was so happy to give them to me! And I have to say, they may just be one of my favorite pairs I've ever received. My heart was so full!

Grandma Mo always picks out the best and most fun gifts! Camden was enthralled with his new friendly robot who dances, lights up, and talks!

Another favorite from Grandma Mo (Kyle's mom) was this antique lever that was his grandpa's a long, long time ago! We love stuff like this and it means so much!

Brett spent most of the day putting his new Star Wars Lego set together...he is our little engineer :-)

And Ta Da! The finished product!

Just puttin" gas in his new lawn mower :-)

Before heading to my parent's house for Christmas dinner, we let the boys play outside and grabbed this cute picture of the two of them. I still can't believe my dream has come true of having two children and I amazed daily by their bond.

It was a quiet night at my parent's house since Matt and Amy were with her family this year! We still had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed being together....the best gift of all! This is the only picture we grabbed during the night (while Brett was busy with his new toys)....and I love it! It truly captures our happiness and gratitude we were feeling that night. If only we had Brett in the picture...it would be perfect :-)

And one last shot of the night....this is the front porch of our new home :-)

As always, we have so much to be grateful this year! Life is busy and hectic and hard, but we have everything that really matters. Love to you all!
