We usually head to Wisconsin to visit Kyle's family atleast a couple times a year, but I have to admit, summer time is always my most favorite. Wisconsin reminds me a lot of up north, Michigan, where I used to go every summer as a child - there are tree's everywhere, open spaces, lakes and rivers, and just a freshness in the air that I love. Unfortunately, this trip was a little different than most summers though. The heat took over (100+ degrees some days!) and we stayed inside more than we ever have before this time of year. Unless we were in the lake or pool, we could only stand to be outside for about 10 minutes. And it was even too hot at night to sit around the fire pit! That may have been my biggest disappointment of all! We made the best of the situation though and were still able to do some fun activities. We spent time at the pool and lake, went to the little zoo to visit the animals (it's so small we covered the whole place in about 20 minutes - thank goodness because we couldn't have lasted any longer!), and enjoyed eating, chatting, and playing indoors. Oh, and of course we were able to get a few fireworks in on the 4th of July too :-) Sometimes it is worth a little bit of sweating for some good memories!
The first full day we were there we went to the pool with Grandma and Grandpa Mo. Brett loved the squirt gun noodle that grandma gave him, but the fun didn't last long. The lifeguard soon came over and told them "no squirt guns aloud!". I guess I understand that some people don't like to be squirted in the face by an out of control 3 year old, but I still couldn't help but think, loosen up people! Or maybe I just really enjoyed seeing the smiles and giggles on Brett's face and didn't want his excitement to end :-). He thought it was the coolest thing ever!
Figuring out how it works...
and focusing hard on his target...grandma!
He think he got her :-)
In between swimming, we ate some lunch and goofed around at the table...I think Brett was practicing his modeling here :-)
He was a pretty cute lion!
Then it was time for more swimming!
Practicing his kicks with Grandma! He got really good at it!
Brett also practiced holding on to the edge by himself. At first he was scared, but eventually he got the hang of it and was so proud of himself!
There were these little moths all over the pool area, and Brett had a blast trying to catch them! He caught quite a few actually!
The next day we went to the zoo. Before we looked at the animals outside, we watched some of a presentation on turtles, snakes, and frogs. It was definitely aimed more toward school age children so Brett only lasted through the turtles. That was fine with me though because the guy giving the presentation told way too many cheesy jokes - and did too much talking! We just wanted to see the animals!
Before Brett got bored, he was captivated by the big turtles and the way they could flip over!
The petting farm area was the most fun!
I wanted to take this baby cow home, along with the piglets and goats :-)
"Look at the turtle, daddy! I think he should go in the water!"
Oh, and I wanted to take this Lemur home too :-) He was so cute and friendly! He followed us around in his cage while enjoying his carrots.
They had these "feeding tubes" to put the food through for the animals. Brett is waiting patiently for his turn to feed the pony.
We went out to lunch after the zoo, and then Brett passed out cold on the way back to Grandma and Grandpa's. He was tired after all that fun!!
