Another fun adventure this summer was camping with friends! We talked about doing this for the past couple years, but never put a plan into place....until Cathy finally got the ball rolling and made it happen! The best part of all is that Sugarloaf Campground is only a short 15 minute drive from town, so we were close by in case anything came up.....like huge thunderstorms that sent us back to our beds the first night! And yes, that happened....
It had been a very dry summer so we were in dire need of some hardcore rain storms. There was just one weekend that we hoped it would stay dry...the weekend we went camping! Do you think Mother Nature could cooperate and help us out? Of course not! We pulled into the campground Friday evening, had enough time to scarf down some pizza and then BAM, the dark clouds rolled in and the rain came pouring down on us. We hadn't set up camp yet, so we quickly rushed into our car to stay dry while everyone else threw themselves into their tents. And we sat. And sat. And tried to keep a crazy 1 and a half year old from pushing every button in our car. The downpour lasted close to an hour, and then finally it let up enough for us all to jump out and figure out the plan for the night. We were finally able to check the radar (the signal wasn't good out in the country so it was hard to get good service) and it showed heavy rain and thunderstorms all night long. So, we decided to abandon camp and head to much drier place to hang out, Kathi and Jen's house! The kids watched a movie while us adults talked and played cards, and then we went home to our warm beds to sleep.
Happily eating pizza before the rain hit!
Car selfie to capture this craziness!
Before we left, we let the kids play in the mud for a little while. They were so bummed to leave!
Part of the soaking wet adult crew.
And some soaking wet kiddos!
By mid morning the next day, the sun finally started to come out and dry things up a bit, so back to Sugarloaf we all went! We had a wonderful day of swimming, games, good food, and the big kids even got to go on a 'midnight' nature hike under the stars. We knew Camden wouldn't sleep well in the tent, so Kyle took him home around 9pm while I stayed back with Brett to enjoy a full night of camping! Although I didn't sleep much, I sure had a great time....and Brett did too :-) I loved that special time with him!
Watching daddy fire up the grill, and teaching Camden to stay back!
See that itty bitty tent to the left? Yeah, that one was ours....the same tent Kyle and I camped for the very first time together in 13 years ago! The same tent Kyle told me he loved me in for the first time. And the same tent Kyle took to all those DMB shows he camped at. Definitely NOT a tent to be used for a family of four! It had clearly seen better days, so we tossed in on our way out on Sunday and will be purchasing a new, much bigger tent, for next years camping adventure!
Brett loved playing this yard game (but what was it called???)
My hunky chef.
Hazel and Brett had lots of fun hanging out and looking for buds together.
Thanks for the yummy breakfast, Cathy and Garry!
They found something cool....
Bugs maybe? Whatever it was, Camden had to join too :-)
Enjoying one minute of peace before Camden was up and running again!
Brett still loves his camping chair that Uncle Matt gave him years ago!
No camping adventure is complete without a fire and S'mores!
Garry, Kyle, and Sam entertained us with their tunes.
Sweet Emma.
And to add to the sugar buzz.....Ringpops!
Kyle and Camden came back early on Sunday for some more rustic fun before packing up to head home.
Nothing beats being by the water in the summer!
Or if you're One....a playground :-)
The water was the perfect temperature, cool enough to feel refreshing but warm enough that you kept your circulation!
We had such a great time and are already looking forward to next year! Hopefully with no rain and a new tent...ha!
